Lamu Cultural Promotion Group is a community-based organization which was inaugurated in 2001 with its head office in Lamu town. The group was founded by indigenous people of Lamu with a sole objective of promoting culture as a tool of economic empowerment. The organization is non-political and its main mandate being preservation and promotion of Swahili tangible and intangible culture.
Mission
• Cultural promotion and preservation of Swahili heritage by organizing cultural events.
• To entertain visitors attending the Festival with cultural events during their stay in Lamu
• To use Cultural events as a market tool that will help to increase visitors in Lamu to boast tourism sector both locally and internationally.
• To make The Lamu community understand, value, and appreciate its cultural heritage.
• To promote dialogue between different cultures and civilizations.
• To lay a strong cultural foundation to the present and future youths so that they will inherit a strong and stable cultural set-up.
• To celebrate Lamu as the hub of the Swahili cultures and heritage in the East African region.
